According to an arrest report, multiple passerby flagged down responding officers during the incident, who spotted the victim taking the suspect, Brandon Tyler Johnson, 27, of Canton, Georgia, to the ground and placing him in a chokehold.
Police said the victim released Johnson after officers intervened.
Officers then detained both men for questioning. A Glock 48 gun was found “loosely carried” inside the suspect’s pants, “clutched between his legs,” the arrest report stated.
According to the report, the victim told officers that he, his fiancée and his fiancée’s daughter, who is a minor, were walking south on Collins Avenue when Johnson “heavily” bumped his fiancée.
The victim said he told Johnson that he should be more careful and Johnson then became shouting and behaving “aggressively” toward him.
According to the report, the victim claimed that Johnson then shoved him and he shoved him back.
He said Johnson then pulled out the gun and pointed it at him, at which time he tried to disengage with Johnson.
According to the report, the victim claimed Johnson followed the victim and his family as they tried to leave the area and began pressing the barrel of the gun to the victim’s temple.
The victim said his fiancée tried to separate the two men, at which time Johnson pointed the gun at her, pressing the barrel to her head.
Police said Johnson also allegedly pointed the gun at the woman’s child multiple times. The child’s age was not disclosed in the report.
According to the report, part of the incident was captured on cellphone video taken by the fiancée.
Police said Johnson claimed that only he and the man were involved in a physical altercation and did not mention the gun to officers. Police said Johnson claimed that the victim engaged with him because “he’s racist.”
Johnson was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
As of Tuesday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $20,000 bond.
