Fort Lauderdale police confirmed Tuesday that the victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead after being transported to Broward Health Medical Center.

According to witnesses, an argument escalated into a fistfight before the shooting near Northwest Eighth Avenue and 15th Street, shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Emmanuel Auguste said several “young men” intervened in the fight before one of them retrieved a gun from a truck and opened fire.

“Everybody started taking off running,” Auguste said Tuesday.

Fort Lauderdale police searched the area home to home, using a police dog, but no arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.

Detectives continue to investigate and urge anyone with information to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
