According to Miami police, the initial incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday when a victim inside his apartment near the 30th block of Southwest First Street, heard a knock at the door.
Through the peephole, police said the victim saw Younnie Hughes, of Gladeview, walk into his apartment and say, “You all know what time it is.”
Moments later, a second unidentified man, wearing a black mask and sweater entered the apartment with a handgun drawn.
Police said the pair demanded the victim’s jewelry, forcing him to hand over what he was wearing along with his green Louis Vuitton wallet.
They said the men also took the victim’s Xbox Series, a CyberPower Tracer 3 laptop, and other electronic items, placing them in a baby stroller.
Hughes then entered the victim’s bedroom and stole several Cuban link gold chains and bracelets from a jewelry box, according to an arrest report.
Authorities said surveillance footage from a neighbor’s Ring camera and security cameras inside the apartment building captured the pair arriving, entering, and later leaving the building with the stolen items.
Both Hughes and his accomplice were seen loading the stolen property into a black Honda CR-V before fleeing the scene, according to investigators.
A be-on-the-lookout alert was placed on the vehicle, and on Thursday, Miami police tactical robbery detectives spotted it near Northwest 62nd Street.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, police said Hughes fled, leading police on a pursuit.
Hughes then bailed out of the vehicle near Northwest 21st Court and 68th Terrace and attempted to run but was quickly apprehended, the report stated.
Police said Hughes was in possession of the victim’s stolen Louis Vuitton wallet when he was taken into custody.
He was transported to the MPD’s robbery office for questioning and made a statement that was redacted in the publicly-released report after being read his Miranda rights.
Police also confirmed that Hughes had a suspended Florida driver’s license at the time of his arrest.
They did not disclose if any other arrests were made in the case.
Jail records show he is facing one count each of robbery with a firearm during a home invasion, armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon, fleeing or eluding police lights and siren, resisting an officer without violence and knowingly driving with a suspended license.
As of Friday, Hughes is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
