Jurors heard closing arguments Thursday in the first-degree attempted murder trial of Gayle Blount.
It was nearly four years ago when Blount shot his ex-fiance, Bridget Knighton, in Miami Gardens.
She was shot five times in the legs and belly. The victim said Blount was abusive and shot her out of anger.
But Blount alleges he was in fear for his own life, claiming he shot Knighton after she threatened him, and reached for a purse.
During cross-examination Tuesday, the state implied there never was a purse, calling it a “magic purse.”
The defense brought this up during closings, showing still frames of video showing Knighton’s purse, prompting a rare apology from the prosecutor.
The jury will be back on Friday to continue deliberations.
