South Florida cities generating big money with speeding cameras in school zones

MIAMI – The report card is in on school speed zone cameras.

As Local 10 News has reported, cities across South Florida have rolled out high-tech road monitors designed to keep kids safe.

Now the question is whether they are making the grade.

In a short amount of time, the cameras have already generated over $1 million for the different cities.

Much of that goes back to the cities and is used in a variety of ways, such as public safety and crossing guard programs.

Other than what the cities themselves receive, a portion of the money generated goes to the state, the county and the vendor who operates the cameras.
