Police: Man facing charges after causing crash that left 1 adult, 4 children dead

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. ā€“ Miami Gardens police blocked off a portion of Northwest 37th Avenue overnight after a serious crash that left three mangled vehicles sitting nearby.

Sadly, four children were among the five victims who did not survive the collision.

ā€œAt this time we can confirm that there is five fatalities,ā€ said Emmanuel Jeanty with Miami Gardens police. ā€œItā€™s going to be one adult female and four children.ā€

The moment of impact, which occurred just before 6 p.m. on Saturday, was captured on a nearby surveillance camera.

In the footage, you can see debris flying as a black Kia Sorento smashed into a white Nissan Altima, causing that car to slam into a silver Cadillac Escalade.

All this happened between Northwest 171st Street and 169th Terrace.

Police have since charged 25-year-old Antonio Wilcox Jr. with five counts of vehicular homicide for allegedly causing the crash.

ā€œSpeed was a factor and so was alcohol,ā€ said Jeanty.

According to Miami Dade Fire Rescue, a total of ten people had to be taken to the hospital.

ā€œVery tough night for our community,ā€ said Jeanty. ā€œItā€™s a very tough night for our officers responding to the scene. Itā€™s a very tough night for fire rescue personnel, and our officers who had to triage the patient on scene.ā€
