BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the Humane Society of Broward County is encouraging pet lovers to open their hearts and homes to adoptable animals, including an affectionate puppy fittingly named Love.

Love, an 8-month-old mixed breed, was featured on Saturday morning’s Adopt a Pet segment on Local 10 News, quickly winning over the newsroom with her friendly demeanor.

At just 16 pounds, she still has some growing to do and is expected to reach around 25 pounds. While her exact breed is unknown, staff believe she may be a mix of beagle and Labrador.

“She is extremely affectionate,” said HSBC’s Cherie Wachter. “She loves to give kisses and has been charming everyone she meets.”

For those looking for a larger, high-energy companion, the shelter also spoke about Pierce, a 3-year-old dog who enjoys running, playing, and interacting with water. Despite his playful nature, he prefers splashing in a kiddie pool over taking a bath.

“It’s sad because bigger dogs often get overlooked,” Wachter said. “We want them all to find homes for Valentine’s Day and many more holidays to come.”

Last week, the Humane Society of Broward recently hosted its annual Walk for the Animals, the organization’s largest fundraiser.

The event, which helps support pet adoptions and care, is just shy of its $518,000 goal, with donations still being accepted.

“Every dollar makes a difference,” Wachter said “A $10 donation covers formula for puppies and kittens, while $25 provides a microchip.”
