Driver crashes vehicle into canal along West Okeechobee Road

MEDLEY, Fla. – A driver is doing OK after crashing his or her vehicle into a canal along West Okeechobee Road in Medley Friday morning, first responders confirmed to Local 10 News.

Sky 10 was above the scene near Northwest 105th Way at 6:45 a.m. as the white vehicle was being hoisted out of the water.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials confirmed that the driver had made it out of the vehicle before first responders arrived.

According to Medley police, the crash occurred around 4 a.m.

Police said the driver was spotted near the embankment by first responders and was quickly helped out of the water.

According to police, the driver was alert and was transported to a hospital by MDFR to be evaluated.

“Divers from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office ensured no one else was in the vehicle and assisted in the removal from the canal,” Medley police said in a statement.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Police urged the public to stay cautious and alert while driving, especially when near bodies of water.
