Yendry Antolin Espinosa, of Lehigh Acres, was taken into custody without incident following an investigation into the Dec. 14, 2024, shooting, according to Hialeah police.

Officers responded to a 911 call just after 9:30 p.m. from a man who reported that his girlfriend had been accidentally shot by his friend.

When officers arrived at the home, police said they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Espinosa approached officers at the scene and admitted he was the one who had fired the shot, police said.

Hialeah Fire Rescue transported the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Witnesses told detectives they were hanging out in the common area of the home when Espinosa reentered a bedroom and came out holding a gun, according to an arrest report.

As Espinosa approached the front door, witnesses said they heard a loud gunshot and saw the victim bleeding before she collapsed, the report stated. The witnesses also told police that the shooting appeared to be accidental.

After being read his Miranda rights, police said Espinosa made a confession that was redacted in the publicly-released report.

Jail records show Espinosa is facing one count of manslaughter with a deadly weapon.

As of Thursday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed at $15,000.
