According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer truck with a container carrying wine crashed along the Florida Turnpike’s southbound lanes in Hollywood.

Here is how Ramos described the ordeal:

A light pole came crashing down on the Turnpike near Hollywood Boulevard.

After the red semi-truck flipped on its side, the driver was trapped. His legs were sticking out of the front windshield, which had shattered.

Another witness who also jumped into action used metal shears to break through mangled metal. Once there was enough room, the man was free.

He was speaking coherently in Spanish and walking when Hollywood Fire Rescue personnel responded. FHP later reported he wasn’t injured.

Residents in the neighboring homes said they felt the ground shake after the crash and saw the smoke. There were traffic delays, as only one lane remained open.
