FREEPORT, Bahamas – A U.S. Coast Guard crew caught a Chinese migrant apparently trying to come into the country in an unusual way — via paddleboard.

According to a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, the crew on Coast Guard cutter Seahorse spotted the migrant paddling about 25 miles off the coast of Freeport, Bahamas on Tuesday.
Video and photos show the man with an oar on top of two paddleboards tied together. He also tied pieces of luggage to the makeshift vessel. In the video, the man waves at the Coast Guard crew.

Officials said they took him back to the Bahamas.
Two groups of Chinese migrants who made it to shore recently made headlines in South Florida.
On Jan. 17 and Jan. 28, police stopped groups of mostly Chinese migrants in vans in Coral Gables, taken as part of what they called human smuggling operations.
