MIAMI – Miami police said a suspect was in custody after a fatal stabbing on a city trolley in the Edgewater neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
The killing happened at Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 29th Street.
Police said at around 2:30 p.m., two men started arguing on the trolley when one of them pulled out a knife and started stabbing the other man, killing him.
Authorities haven’t yet released the names of the suspect or victim.
Capt. Freddie Cruz, a Miami Police Department spokesperson, said the city’s trolley system is “very safe” and the killing was unusual.
“I personally have never heard of this ever happening,” he said. “We want the community to rest easy that, you know, this is an isolated incident.”
Police, who closed Biscayne Boulevard for hours, said detectives were speaking to witnesses and gathering evidence, including surveillance video.
