MIRAMAR, Fla. – Miramar police are investigating a shooting that occurred Monday morning at a Walgreens, authorities confirmed.
The shooting was reported at the Walgreens off Miramar Boulevard and Palm Avenue.
4 p.m. report:
According to authorities, officers responded to a report of shots fired inside the store and found that one customer had shot another.
“We had a dispute between two customers and it looks like one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other,” said Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss.
Investigators said the victim was rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition after being shot in front of a number of employees and customers, including small children, who were still inside the store when shots rang out.
The victim, later identified by police as 27-year-old Anthony Souvenir, was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
“There were other customers inside. We are talking to them,” said Moss. “We’ve also brought out a social worker to make sure that they’re OK, because seeing something like this is obviously a harrowing situation for somebody that just merely went to the store.”
Sky 10 was above the scene at noon as multiple people were standing and sitting outside the Walgreens, which had been completely blocked off with crime scene tape.
Detectives questioned witnesses at the scene as to what led up to the gunfire.
Police later announced the arrest of 28-year-old Jaime Taylor.
The investigation remains open and ongoing.
