Police: Criminal charges possible after fatal Pembroke Pines crash

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Criminal charges may be filed following a fatal crash that occurred Monday morning in Pembroke Pines, authorities confirmed to Local 10 News.

According to Pembroke Pines police, the crash between a vehicle and a motor scooter occurred at the intersection of Pines Boulevard and Douglas Road.

5 p.m. report:

Sky 10 was above the scene at 6:20 a.m. Westbound lanes along Pines Boulevard between Douglas Road and Northwest 98th Avenue was blocked off.

Police confirmed in an email to Local 10 that “it appears this crash might result in criminal charges.”

According to authorities, the driver of the vehicle that struck the scooter continued west after the crash, coming to a stop just west of Northwest 98th Avenue.

Police said they are in contact with the driver and the investigation remains ongoing.

Local 10 News spoke with a loved one of the victim, who said he was only 20 years old and that his family lives in Colombia.

Now they are trying to figure out how to pay to have his body sent back home.

Loved ones later identified the victim to Local 10 News as Julian Santiago Gonzalez and said he was delivering orders for DoorDash when the crash occurred. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist his family during their time of need.
