1 dead, 1 injured after fire erupts at Deerfield Beach home

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – Rescue crews responded to a house fire in Deerfield Beach early Sunday morning.

According to authorities, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews responded to a house fire along the 900 block of Northeast 50th Court just before 2:20 a.m.

As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, a man was found inside the seven-unit home who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim who authorities said was suffering from “a medical condition” was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

One of the tenants who did not want to speak on camera said he was home when the fire started and was woken up by a roommate.

He identified the victim who died as a 45-year-old man named Morris.

Authorities said around 40 firefighters responded and had the flames extinguished in approximately 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
