According to Pembroke Pines police, the boy is a 10th-grade student at South Broward High School in Hollywood and made a threat on Snapchat to “shoot up” Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines.
Police said the teen was participating in a group conversation with other students on the social media platform when he made the threat.
One of the students then called 911.
According to police, officers quickly identified the suspect and arrested him at his home.
He faces a felony charge of electronic threats to kill and is being held at the Juvenile Assessment Center.
He is expected to appear in juvenile court Friday morning.
“Though the threat was isolated, a safety plan was created with administrators from Flanagan High School to increase security and provide additional patrol units on campus during January 30, 2025,” a news release from the police department stated. “The campus remains safe and secure. Our department is once again asking parents to please speak to their children about the seriousness of making school threats. The Pembroke Pines Police Department will utilize every resource available to fully investigate these threats, and those responsible will be arrested.”
