Beloved 80-year-old landlord identified as Oakland Park hit-and-run victim

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. ā€“ An 80-year-old woman who was left for dead on the side of the road after being hit by a car has been identified.

The Broward County Sheriffā€™s Office is now offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.

Floyd Carter is still grappling with sudden loss of his 80-year-old neighbor and beloved landlord Barbara Price.

ā€œIā€™m hurt, my heartā€™s broken man, Iā€™m broken,ā€ he said. ā€œBarbara was the best person ever. I lost my mom in 2010 and I always called her my second mom. She took care of me and she took care of him.ā€

Price and her now widowed husband, who suffers from dementia, owned an Oakland Park multi-family apartment building and on Wednesday night the elderly woman decided to walk across the street to a convenience store.

But as Price crossed Powerline Road near Northwest 39th Street in Oakland Park, an SUV hit and killed her, with the driver never stopping.

Detectives believe the vehicle was a light blue Land Rover sport SUV with a model year between 2005 and 2009 with front passenger side damage from the impact.

ā€œThis could be your grandmother, this could be your mother,ā€ said Gerdy St. Louis with the Broward Sheriffā€™s Office. ā€œThis situation was very tragic because this woman was left on the side of the road dead. Detectives want anyone with information to come forward.ā€

Surveillance video from a nearby business shows stunned witnesses stopped in their tracks, and then a flurry of BSO deputies arriving to the crime scene, pronouncing the beloved grandmother dead.

ā€œHe needs to be caught and he needs to be punished for what he did,ā€ said Carter. ā€œShe was a great woman, the best of all people and hopefully sheā€™s in heaven.ā€

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
