According to Miami police, the shooting was reported around 10:18 a.m. on Jan. 16 when they were dispatched to a home near the 500 block of Northwest 56th Street.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a man with gunshot wounds in the second-floor hallway of the unit, according to the report.

Police said they provided medical assistance until Miami Fire Rescue personnel arrived at the scene.

The victim was then transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical condition with two gunshot wounds — one to his lower chin and another to his right temple, according to police.

Investigators later identified the suspect as Jason Anthony Manboard, of Miami Gardens.

Police said surveillance video showed Manboard wearing a multi-colored remembrance shirt, light blue jean shorts, and armed with a black handgun.

The footage also captured Manboard’s interaction with the victim, who police later identified as the boyfriend of Manboard’s ex-girlfriend.

Police said the incident started as an argument over damages to the ex-girlfriend’s car.

Investigators said the victim told them that the altercation escalated when Manboard followed her back to her apartment, became physically aggressive when she “denied his sexual advances,” drew a gun and shot her boyfriend after he arrived at her apartment.

Shortly after the shooting occurred, police said Manboard fled the scene.

Manboard’s ex-girlfriend later identified him as the shooter in a photo lineup, according to investigators.

Police said Manboard was arrested on Wednesday at 5:30 a.m. near the 2400 block of Brickell Avenue, and transported to the Miami Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit for further questioning.

In an interview with detectives, Manboard said he was at his ex-girlfriend’s house to have sex with her but got mad when she was texting someone else, the report stated.

Police said Manboard denied hitting his ex-girlfriend or having any prior altercations before the shooting occurred.

His full confession, however, was redacted in the publicly released report.

Jail records show Manboard is facing one count each of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a weapon or firearm causing great bodily harm, and attempting to tamper with physical evidence.

As of Thursday, he was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
