MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – An officer with the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department and a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy were both hurt in a crash Wednesday afternoon near Miami Northwestern Senior High School, authorities confirmed.
The crash occurred around 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest 10th Avenue and Northwest 67th Street in northwest Miami-Dade when an on-duty MDSO Robbery Intervention Detail deputy collided with a school officer’s marked unit, investigators said.
Detective Argemis Colome, a spokesman for the MDSO, said Miami Fire Rescue crews responded and transported both individuals to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where they are expected to make a full recovery.
“I heard a boom,” said Charles Price, who lives near the intersection where the crash occurred. “I ran over to help.”
Sky 10 flew over the intersection shortly after 5 p.m., showing a black sedan with extensive front-end damage, possibly from a head-on collision.
Just feet away, the Miami-Dade Schools police officer’s cruiser was wrapped around a metal fence.
An officer was seen in a neck brace, placed onto a stretcher, and was loaded into a MFR ambulance by medics.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no other details have been immediately released at this time.
