In January, BSO’s Strategic Investigations Division deployed quick response (QR) codes in high-traffic areas across Broward County.
These codes, easily scanned with a smartphone, provide immediate access to BSO’s Human Trafficking page, where individuals can find crucial information about how to seek help, identify potential victims, and report trafficking.
“Although you think this is your only option, because of the things you have gone through, and the things the trafficker has put in your mind, there are ways you can get your life back and recover and we can help you do that,” said BSO’s SID Sergeant Erica Rockey, who leads the initiative.
The QR codes are designed not only to reach victims but also to inform the public about the signs of trafficking.
Victims can find assistance through law enforcement or confidential support services without immediately involving the authorities if they choose.
This initiative is part of BSO’s ongoing commitment to eradicating human trafficking in Broward.
BSO encourages residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicions of human trafficking.
To report a tip, the public can contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888, text “BeFree” to 233733, or call BSO’s non-emergency number at 954-764-4357. In emergencies or active situations, call or text 911.
