POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A 49-year-old man has been arrested, months after a crash in Pompano Beach left his son injured and another driver dead, authorities confirmed.

According to an arrest report from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Angelo Michael Ragonese, of Oakland Park, was arrested Monday on charges of DUI causing death to a human, DUI with property damage or damage to another person, child neglect without great bodily harm and vehicular homicide.
The crash in question occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 17, 2024, at the intersection of East Atlantic Boulevard and Northeast 15th Avenue.
Deputies said Ragonese was driving a 2022 BMW M4 coupe at about 80 mph in a 35 mph zone when he T-boned a 2023 Toyota Camry sedan that was making a left turn.
His juvenile son was in the car at the time, authorities said.
According to the arrest report, the impact caused the Toyota to rotate clockwise before crashing into the front of a nearby Truist Bank.
Deputies said the BMW was slightly redirected northwest, but continued west down the roadway before coming to a complete stop.
According to the report, witnesses told deputies that Ragonese got out of his car after the crash and began yelling profanities at the driver of the Toyota, who was unconscious.
They said he was not acting “normal,” and appeared to be under the influence, the report stated.
One witness – a nurse – told deputies that Ragonese was verbally aggressive with her as she tried to help the driver of the Toyota.
According to the report, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue units also responded to the scene and everyone involved in the crash was transported to Broward Health North.
Authorities confirmed that Ragonese and his son’s injuries were considered non-life-threatening, while the other driver suffered critical injuries.
That driver died two days later in the hospital, according to the report.
The arrest report states that Ragonese refused to provide a voluntary blood sample at the hospital, but blood samples were taken after a search warrant was approved.
According to the report, data collected from the BMW shows that it was traveling at 124 mph just prior to the crash, and 83 mph at the time one of its airbags deployed.
Results from a toxicology report also showed that Ragonese had tested positive for cocaine on the morning of the crash.
As of Tuesday, Ragonese was being held at the Broward Main Jail without bond.
