Jan. 6 defendants react after Trump pardons 1,500 in Capitol riot cases

MIAMI – Former President Donald Trump has announced a sweeping series of pardons and commutations tied to the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol breach, including full pardons for roughly 1,500 individuals and sentence reductions for 14 others.

“Roughly 1,500 for a pardon, full pardon,” Trump said Monday of the decision, which includes around 500 individuals charged with violent offenses.

Among those celebrating is Gina Bisignano, a Los Angeles resident originally from Florida.

Bisignano, who was indicted on several charges days after the Capitol breach, expressed relief after her case was dismissed.

“I feel great, and I could’ve said I told you so,” Bisignano said.

Still wearing a bejeweled ankle monitor, she eagerly anticipated its removal.

“I’m a native Floridian, and I haven’t been able to go in the ocean in four years.”

The pardons have already resulted in visible changes.

Kenneth and Caleb Fuller, charged with felonies and misdemeanors related to the Capitol riot, were seen leaving a Washington, D.C., courtroom Tuesday.

Meanwhile, former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, of Miami, has been released from a Louisiana prison.

Tarrio, who was convicted of helping plan the events of Jan. 6 and sentenced to 22 years, was arrested in a pre-dawn raid at his Miami home. He is expected to return to South Florida on Wednesday to reunite with his family.

“The most exciting feeling after having given birth to him,” said his mother, Zuny Duarte Tarrio. “It’s exciting when your son gets to have his life back. We’re talking about a sentence of 22 years.”
