The crash occurred around 5:55 a.m. on Jan. 4 in the 2700 block of West Atlantic Boulevard.

Authorities said BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a car.

Upon arrival, deputies said they found a woman with severe injuries. She was transported to Broward Health North but was pronounced dead, according to investigators.

The victim’s age and identity are being withheld until her next of kin have been notified, deputies confirmed.

Authorities said the woman was walking north across West Atlantic Boulevard when a car heading eastbound struck her.

According to BSO, witnesses reported that the car, believed to be a dark-colored sedan, briefly stopped after the collision, deputies said.

The driver allegedly acknowledged the victim lying on the road before fleeing northbound on Powerline Road, investigators confirmed.

Detectives said the sedan likely sustained damage to its hood and possibly the windshield.

Anyone who recognizes the vehicle or has information about the driver is urged to contact BSO Traffic Homicide Detective Carlos De Jesus at 954-321-4842.
