PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Police are looking for a thief caught on camera stealing multiple pricey e-bikes belonging to Canadian snowbirds wintering in Pembroke Park.
The victims, from Quebec, say they’re now left without their main form of transportation.
“We are too old to walk,” victim Claude Gosslin said. “We ride e-bikes to go to the beach and the grocery store.”
The overnight burglaries happened at the Holiday Park Mobile Estates off Hallandale Beach Boulevard.
“When we woke up Friday morning, we went outside the camper and our friend said, ‘Ohhh,’ because two electric bikes were stolen,” victim Joanne Sevegny said. “We’ve been coming here for five years and it’s the first time something has been stolen.”
Video from Sevegny’s camper shows the moment a man walked up to their tent at 3 a.m. and spent 15 minutes unlocking and stealing one of their electric bikes.
Another video shows the same man doing the same thing. The suspect is believed to have made off with more than $10,000 worth of e-bikes.
“My bike is right there,” victim Harold Desrocher said. “They cut the cord, two bikes, gone!”
Victim Sophie Jobin said she put chains and had other security measures, but it was all for naught.
“We work hard for our money and it’s not a good thing,” she said.
Police said it’s a common problem in Pembroke Park, a popular haven for those escaping cold Canadian winters.
Anyone who recognizes or knows the thief is asked to call the Pembroke Park Police Department or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
