It happened back on July 8 just before 8 p.m. along the 800 block of Northwest 10th Terrace.

A gunman opened fire and sprayed an area outside of a convenience store with bullets.

The toddler’s mother, 28-year-old Tiarra Holiday, died while shielding her son from the gunfire.

Another man also died after being hit by bullets.

Young Diego was placed in a medically induced coma with multiple gunshot wounds and a broken leg.

Diego was smiling while reuniting with the Fort Lauderdale police officers whose quick thinking helped save his life. Those two officers were named the department’s officers of the year.

Meanwhile, over six months later and the investigation into this shooting and the motive behind it remains open.

Anyone with information is urged to call Fort Lauderdale police or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
