CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Police in Broward County are searching for a woman caught on camera using fake $100 bills at multiple small businesses.
On Wednesday, Local 10 News reported on the woman coming into 3 Natives Açaí and Juicery in Coral Springs and paying with a fake $100, taking around $90 in change and leaving.
“Don’t be a jerk, we are a small business,” said owner Babe Caruso. “It’s hard enough right now, we can’t lose that. Hug your mom, do better in life.”
Caruso filed a police report with Coral Springs PD, who confirmed to Local 10 News that they are investigating an individual with the same M.O. said to have hit up Chicken Salad Chick, also in Coral Springs.
The manager confirmed they too fell victim to the fake $100 scam, saying a woman made off with around $80-90 two weeks ago.
This woman was said to have attempted to pull off her heist a second time at both establishments, but both times she was turned away by employees.
Coral Springs police said they are actively investigating and trying to locate the woman. Investigators believe it’s the same woman in both incidents.
If the woman is found and charged with anything, it wouldn’t be a counterfeit crime since the money did indicate on it that it was fake, but she would be looking at a petty theft charge.
