MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was rushed to the hospital Wednesday morning after he was shot in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities confirmed.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the shooting was reported just before 5:39 a.m. in the 5600 block NW 19th Avenue.
Deputies said they arrived at the scene to find a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
“Well, I’m not surprised,” Teddy Studstill, who lives in the neighborhood, said. “Just based upon watching the news on a daily basis, you see so much crime happening in different areas, so what makes you think that it cannot happen in your area?”
The victim was transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.
“The preliminary investigation revealed the victim and the subject, also an adult male, were involved in a verbal dispute, which escalated when the subject produced a firearm and shot the victim,” MDSO said in an email to Local 10 News.
Authorities said the shooter fled the scene before deputies arrived.
Studstill told Local 10 News that he and his wife woke up to ambulance lights.
“Actually, on our security cameras, my wife and I, we saw the paramedics passing by our house, so obviously we knew that there was something happening in our neighborhood,” he said.
Deputies zeroed in on one home as they searched for the gunman.
“Desperate people do desperate things, and unfortunately, you know, if something like this happens out of two guys for some odd reason couldn’t find a way to resolve their problem in a more peaceful way,” Studstill said.
The investigation continues.
