According to an arrest report from the Doral Police Department, the dog’s co-owner contacted authorities after receiving an incoherent phone call from 35-year-old Dante Antepara just after midnight on Wednesday.
The woman arrived at her residence near the 5700 block of Northwest 112th Street and noticed what appeared to be blood on the floor, investigators said.
Shortly after, authorities said she left the home and went to the Doral Police Department to request assistance.
While speaking with police, the woman claimed that she also received a call from her daughter, who said Antepara had also contacted her, the report stated.
Officers searched the home and discovered blood on the floor, which investigators determined came from the dog that lived there.
The dog was taken to the Doral Centre Animal Hospital, where veterinarians determined it had been stabbed approximately seven times in the neck and was euthanized due to the severity of its injuries, the report stated.
Police said Antepara was read his Miranda rights and chose to speak with investigators, but his statement was redacted from the publicly released report.
Authorities did not release a motive for the alleged attack.
Jail records show Antepara faces one count of animal cruelty with intent to injure or kill with a deadly weapon.
As of Wednesday, he remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
