PINECREST, Fla. – Residents of a Pinecrest neighborhood are fed up with serial thieves who keep targeting their homes.
The crooks are coming to their houses in luxury rides.
In one instance, the thieves came up in a Mercedes-Benz.
Video shows the perp trying to go for a G-Wagen parked on the property.
It’s incident number 11 for William Alger and his family. Alger has turned his home into a tech fortress. Local 10 News first talked to him about this problem in 2022.
His alarms and lasers and motion cameras have served him well but the crooks still try and his neighbors are now feeling it too. In many cases, they’re not so lucky.
“They just want to get what they want to get,” Alger said. “They want to get something left in a car.”
Resident Andrew Castellano said around the same time as Alger, crooks raided his property and pulled up in a Maserati.
Someone jumped the fence and quickly targeted his mother’s G-Wagen. She was visiting his wife and his newborn inside.
“(They) took her purse,” Castellano said. “What is the police department, what is the City Council doing about it? 3:45 on a Thursday, if I was home, that scenario goes a little bit differently.”
He added, “They started adding license plate readers and things like that. But every time they pick up a license plate, they’re usually stolen plates.”
Sources said it’s all part of an elaborate crime ring targeting homes in the Coral Gables, South Miami and Pinecrest areas.
Residents said they’re going to their elected officials for answers.
