MIAMI – A 15-year-old Miami girl was set to appear in adult bond court on a second-degree murder charge Friday in connection with the fatal December shooting of a woman in the Liberty City neighborhood.
Shantearia Gaines, of Overtown, was initially arrested little more than a week after the killing. She initially faced juvenile charges.

According to police, the shooting happened on Dec. 11 at an apartment at 5600 NW Seventh Court.
An arrest report states that Gaines shot Darreka Shamona Eddie, 22, in the abdomen during a “verbal altercation in the living room.”
The report doesn’t specify how Gaines knew Eddie or any alleged motive. Eddie would later be pronounced dead at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Authorities said they located Gaines at her home in the 400 block of Northwest Fourth Street on Dec. 19 and took her into custody.
During an interview, they said she gave “multiple conflicting statements” and later an admission, which was redacted from the arrest report.
Gaines was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Friday, jail records show.
