BSO: Car burglar caught on camera stealing gun in North Lauderdale

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office asked for the public’s help Friday in identifying a man who they said was caught on surveillance video breaking into a car and stealing a gun in North Lauderdale over a month ago.

Authorities said the burglary happened on Dec. 8 near the 7800 block of Southwest Seventh Street.

Deputies said surveillance video captured a man attempting to open the door of a 2021 Jeep Cherokee.

The culprit, believed to be around 30 years old, was wearing a black hair cap, a blue long-sleeve T-shirt, black pants, dark shoes, and a white glove on his right hand when the incident occurred, investigators confirmed.

Video footage shows the man opening the trunk of the car before moving to the passenger side, where he rummaged through the interior. Investigators believe this is when the culprit found and stole a handgun.

Anyone who recognizes the individual or has information about the incident is urged to contact BSO North Lauderdale District Detective Sergio Espinoza at 954-720-2265 or submit tips via the SaferWatch app.

For those wishing to remain anonymous, tips can also be sent to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

Detectives said anonymous tips may be eligible for a cash reward.
