MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is out in full force ahead of Thursday night’s Orange Bowl matchup at Hard Rock Stadium.
“We’re here sweeping anything coming into the stadium,” said K9 Deputy Pedro Villalonga.
5 p.m. report:
Villalonga was working alongside his four-legged partner, Murph, to sniff out potential explosives that could be present.
Murph was carefully smelling equipment, boxes of food, and machinery making its way inside.
More than 15 dogs were expected to be working before and during the game.
“We have different types of explosive dogs. W have some that will walk through crowds,” Villalonga said.
Following the New Year’s Day attack on New Orleans, MDSO officials said they would expand the already beefed-up security for the game between Notre Dame and Penn State.
Some resources include extra officers, heavily armed vehicles and an expanded perimeter.
Gates were expected to open at 5:30 p.m.
