MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities responded to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office motorcycle deputy who was injured in a crash.
It happened Wednesday afternoon in the 13800 block of Southwest 152nd Street.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said a woman in her 20′s pulled out in front of the deputy as he travelled westbound at the intersection of Southwest 152nd Street and 138th Avenue.
5 p.m. report:
“It is multiple fractures and the status is that he is in critical but stable condition,” she said. “Unfortunately someone turned directly into his path and an accident occurred.”
The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson South Medical Center as a trauma alert.
Video from Sky 10 shows the deputy’s motorcycle on the ground and a vehicle with damage.
Fellow deputies gathered outside the trauma center, and a group of motormen joined the sheriff as she provided an update on his condition.
“Whether it’s a motorman or anyone on a motorcycle, they clearly do not have an advantage,” said Cordero-Stutz.
While it remains unclear whether the driver was distracted at the time of the accident, the sheriff reminded drivers to not text and drive and to always look out for motorcycles.
“It’s really important that as a driver, we are aware,” said Cordero-Stutz. “Please, if you can, put down the telephone, put down the texting, it can wait.”
