MIAMI – A mix-up accidentally started the process of sending a high-profile real estate broker facing federal sex trafficking charges to New York before his pre-trial detention hearing in Miami even happened Tuesday.

The U.S. Marshals service told Local 10 News they caught the clerical error before Oren Alexander departed South Florida.

A U.S. Magistrate Judge explained the order mix-up was why Alexander was not in federal court Tuesday afternoon. The judge reset his pre-trial detention and removal hearing for Wednesday afternoon.

Oren Alexander and his two brothers, Alon and Tal Alexander, are facing federal sex trafficking charges out of New York, accused of drugging and raping women.

Federal judges have already denied bail to Alon and Tal Alexander in previous hearings.

Oren is also facing state-level sexual battery charges in connection with three alleged incidents out of Miami Beach.

All three men have denied any wrongdoing.

In a statement, U.S. Marshal Gadyaces S. Serralta said, “It was a clerical error. A U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) request from New York to move the defendant was entered. The clerical error was identified quickly enough, prior to Oren Alexander departing the Southern District of Florida.”
