FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Flyers went back up Monday on car windows, at a nearby convenience store and throughout Fort Lauderdale, distributed by the friends and family of murder victim Jason Marous.
Those loved ones are in town from Ohio on the second anniversary of his killing.
“We don’t want him forgotten,” said Debbie Lawrence, Marous’ mother. “For him to just get hurt like that, he didn’t deserve it.”
The 36-year-old was found shot and killed on Jan. 6, 2023 inside his SUV, which was parked outside his apartment on the 800 block of Northeast 14th Place.
Investigators say he died from a gunshot wound.
“They feel it was a random act,” said Lawrence.
Police later released video, filmed around 1:30 a.m. that morning, showing someone they call a person of interest.
“He was facing this way and was texting and the gentleman opened the door, and I think my son refused to give him anything and he got shot in the neck,” said Lawrence.
After all this time, police have made no arrests and say they have no active, investigative leads.
“When I was told it became a cold case, I hit rock bottom,” said Lawrence.
Marous’ family says they are not giving up and hope their continued efforts will bring justice for him.
“Someone knows something, and I’m just pleading with them, contact Crime Stoppers or Fort Lauderdale police so we can start to heal and close the chapter on this,” Lawrence said.
Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
