Chief places several firefighters on leave in wake of collision between Brightline train, fire truck

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – There is new fallout from last weekend’s crash on the tracks in Delray Beach when a Brightline train slammed into a fire truck.

Now, the city’s fire chief has placed several members of his department who under investigation for the crash that left 12 passengers and three firefighters injured on leave, with pay.

Fire Chief Ronald Martin saying in a statement:

“Effective immediately, Assistant Chief Kevin Green, Division Chief Todd Lynch, Captain Brian Fiorey, and Driver Engineer David Wyatt have been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the results of an internal administrative investigation to determine if City and Fire Rescue policies and procedures were followed.”

Video from the Brightline train appeared to show the Delray Beach fire truck had gone around the crossing gates.

The truck right was in the middle of the train tracks upon impact.

Video from inside the train show concerned passengers surrounded by shattered windows and items that had spilled over.

Brightline stressed to drivers to use this incident with the Delray Beach fire truck as a reminder of what not to do.
