DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – An 11-year-old boy and an adult are recovering after authorities said they were attacked by a dog near a condominium complex in Deerfield Beach on Friday evening.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., when Stephen Pierre said he was confronted by three dogs at the Deerfield Palm Condominium.
“There were these three big dogs, one of them glared at me, I stopped, and then he pounced on me and bit me, the pit bull, one of them bit me, the other two didn’t do anything,” Pierre said.
According to Pierre, the dog’s owner rushed to intervene and tried to pull the dog away.
“The owner was punching him over and over. After that, I was yelling and screaming,” Pierre added.
The commotion alarmed Pierre’s mother, Elette Dorsainvil, who rushed to her son’s side.
“I go to take a shower, and I see my son on the floor. He’s saying, ‘Mom, Mom, I’m bleeding, I’m bleeding.’ And I see the dog with the guy in the corner, and it’s, I don’t know,” Dorsainvil said.
Dorsainvil called 911, prompting a response from Broward County Sheriff’s deputies, paramedics, and Broward County Animal Control. Authorities removed all three dogs belonging to the owner.
“I don’t know if my son will make a full recovery … thank God he is still alive because the dog could have attacked him on the neck, and I don’t know,” Dorsainvil said.
Pierre also revealed that the dog bit its owner during the attack.
“The owner said he only licks, so don’t try to pet him or anything, but he just pounced at me and bit me,” Pierre said. “I was really scared, I was punching, hitting him, and screaming.”
A spokesperson with the Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed that all three dogs are now in the care of Broward County Animal Care.
Authorities said deputies were forced to shoot one of the dogs that was still posing a danger to the community.
They said that dog was transported by Broward County Animal Care for treatment and no deputies were injured during the incident. .
