MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 33-year-old man has been arrested on a vehicular homicide charge following the November death of a 14-year-old boy who was struck and killed by an Audi in southwest Miami-Dade.

An arrest report from the Miami-Dade Police Department shows that the driver, Michael Anthony Smith, of Cutler Bay, was arrested Monday at the Florida Highway Patrol headquarters in Doral.
Police said the crash occurred at about 6 p.m. Nov. 26 in the area of Southwest 112th Avenue, just north of 232nd Street.
According to the arrest report, the victim, Lazaro Martinez, and a 10-year-old were walking home when Smith sped through the residential area and struck Martinez.
Police said Martinez’s body was thrown over 100 feet and body parts were “spread over a significant area.”
According to the report, the 10-year-old told officers that the driver of the Audi was speeding prior to impact.
Police said electronic data from the vehicle showed that the Audi was traveling at 81 mph in a 40 mph zone at the time of impact and was “at 100% acceleration at the time of the crash.”
Police noted that there is low-lighting conditions in the area and said Smith claimed to know the area well.
As of Friday morning, Smith was no longer appearing in the jail online database.
