FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale detectives were back on the 700 Block of Northeast 17th Court on Friday investigating a deadly shooting that happened on New Year’s Eve.
Police brought along an ATF K-9 that is trained to find shell casings.
Investigators went through the neighborhood hoping to figure out where a deadly shot came from.
That shot killed 50-year-old Angel Nunes moments after midnight, as he embraced his partner Chris Dillon behind his home.
Dillon believes the bullet may have come from across the Middle River.
Now authorities are trying to track down where the fatal shot came from and who fired it.
“You shoot up in the air for fun, you can’t do it in a city,” said Dillon. “My God, you killed somebody.”
Detectives said they do not believe it to be a targeted shooting and are asking anyone with information about someone shooting into the air on New Year’s Eve to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
