HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Two suspects are facing charges in the murder of a 21-year-old woman who detectives believe fell out of a moving Acura MDX that then crashed into a tree in Hallandale Beach.
Detectives identified the woman who later died at the hospital as Mikesha Johnson and the two men who ran away after the March 5 crash as Omar Simpson, the driver of the Acura MDX, and Joshua Jennings.
“What was supposed to be a friend’s birthday celebration ended in tragedy, and my sister was left alone, abandoned on the side of the road,” Johnson’s sister Shanell Johnson wrote on a GoFundMe page.
Deputies arrested Simpson on Aug 21 and he was at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale facing a first-degree premeditated murder charge. St. Lucie County inmate records show deputies booked Jennings on Dec. 19 on an arrest warrant from Broward County for first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm.
Records show the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office had custody over Jennings, who turned 20 in October, since the U.S. Marshals helped to arrest him on Dec. 19. He was awaiting extradition. The Broward Sheriff’s Office has custody over Omar Simpson, who turned 21 just 5 days after Johnson’s murder.
