The victim told investigators he had just left the nightclub The Trip, located at 28 NE 14th St., and was sitting in his vehicle when two unidentified individuals approached him through the open driver-side window at around 5:30 a.m.
Miami police said one of the culprits snatched a chain from the victim’s neck and fled northbound on Northeast Miami Court.
An arrest report stated that the victim pursued one of his attackers on foot while armed, observing another culprit enter a red vehicle that sped off westbound on Northeast 15th Street.
The situation escalated when police said the victim spotted the same red vehicle on Northeast 14th Street.
Shots were fired at the victim from the vehicle’s driver-side window, prompting the victim to return fire and retreat northbound on Northeast Miami Court, according to the report.
Authorities say the driver of the red vehicle, later identified as 24-year-old Jonathan Alejandro Gutierrez, exited the car while the victim aimed his gun at the group. The red vehicle subsequently left the scene.
Surveillance footage from the area showed Gutierrez running back to the vehicle shortly before the robbery, investigators said.
The footage also captured the vehicle backing toward the victim’s car prior to the chain snatching and the Gutierrez running back to the getaway car afterward, the report stated.
Police said Gutierrez was detained and taken to the MPD’s Central Station Robbery Office, where he provided a statement. Details of the statement were redacted in the publicly released report.
Jail records show he is facing one count each of attempted murder, armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon and burglary with assault or battery.
As of Friday, Gutierrez is being held without bond at the Metrowest Detention Center.
