It happened before 8 a.m. in a second story unit inside the Hammocks Trails condos located along the 15300 block of southwest 106th Lane.

Noon report:

According to authorities, fire crews responded to reports of a kitchen fire.

After arriving, firefighters quickly worked to get the fire under control.

Local 10 News’ Trent Kelly spoke to resident Ada Diaz, who said she was cooking pork in the kitchen for the Christmas Eve holiday, but after putting it in the oven, that is when she quickly noticed smoke.

“I go out and my neighbor is coming, and he called 911,” she said. “Then all the firefighters came.”

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said one person was treated at the scene but there were no hospital transports required.

Despite the damage and the cleanup, residents said they were grateful nobody was hurt.

“We were good, thankfully,” said resident Renny Gonzalez. “We got our families out. There is a little smoke damage, but I feel very bad for the neighbors downstairs, they got the most damage.”
