TAMARAC, Fla. – Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit released surveillance video footage Monday of a violent stabbing that they say occurred at a Bank of America drive-thru ATM in Tamarac last week.
At around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 17, deputies responded to reports of a stabbing at the ATM located at 7001 N. University Drive.
A witness told deputies that they saw an unknown individual stabbing the driver of a black Dodge Charger, according to BSO.
Deputies described the suspect as about 6 feet tall with an athletic build, short black hair, and a beard, wearing a blue t-shirt, jeans, and green sneakers. They said he appeared to be in his late 20s to early 30s and was standing next to a Dodge Charger when the incident occurred.
Authorities also confirmed that the man was armed with an unknown pointed weapon and covered in blood before fleeing the scene on foot, according to investigators.
Later that evening, detectives said they found the same black Dodge Charger in Fort Lauderdale.
BSO deputies based at FLL observed the car entering Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, where investigators learned the vehicle had been rented and returned to the rental company with bloodstains inside.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the vehicle ran away and has not been found.
There are still several questions surrounding what happened.
“If they rented the car, then probably have a picture of his driver license and know who he is?” Local 10 photojournalist Wade Hughes asked BSO spokesperson Gerdy St. Louis.
“So detectives are still investigating that,” she replied.
She noted, “Just because a person rented the car doesn’t mean it is the driver of the vehicle, so they are looking into all leads to find out if they are related to see or if the individual who returned the car is actually the one involved in the stabbing.”
Anyone with information on the incident or the culprit’s whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Lisa Almanza-Londono at 954-321-4185 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch App.
