MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Newly-released body camera videos show Wednesday’s arrest of a man accused of carjacking an Amazon delivery truck in Miami Shores — and the driver telling police how it happened.
Video shows police arresting Hassan Rkein, 46, of Dearborn, Michigan, in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood after officers and Amazon workers used GPS to track the vehicle to Northeast 23rd Street and Second Court. Miami Shores police said Rkein stole it from the 9200 block of Northeast 10th Court.
Rkein was wearing a “Good Vibes Only” T-shirt as he was being put into a police vehicle. The video shows the Amazon driver telling police a story that paints Rkein as a man hardly living up to that motto.
“I was coming up like this way, he approached me and he said, ‘My life is in danger,’ like, give me the keys,” the driver tells police. “And when I didn’t give it to him, like, he just punched me in the face.”
Additionally, an arrest report states that Rkein told the driver, “Give me your s---.”
“Listen, I wasn’t going to fight, you know, he just punched me because I didn’t expect it,” the driver tells police in the video. “I fell to the ground and I had my keys on my hand and I told him, ‘Please, please let me get my stuff.’”
An Amazon spokesperson said no packages were stolen.
Rkein, facing a felony carjacking charge, along with robbery and battery charges, appeared in Miami-Dade court on Thursday.
“I’ll get an attorney,” he told Judge Mindy Glazer, saying he owned his home in Michigan. “I’ve got the money.”
Rkein was being held without bond as Thursday.
