NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – With just one week left until Christmas, South Florida residents are embracing the holiday spirit. In North Miami, one street is going all out to spread holiday cheer.
Located off of North Miami’s 16th Avenue, the street, aptly named “Enchanted Place,” shines brightly. It may not be the North Pole, but it certainly gives it a run for its money.
Spanning two blocks, this Christmas light extravaganza features nutcrackers, reindeer, and even a choo-choo train circling a Christmas tree.
This holiday wonderland is a community effort, with no one receiving payment. In fact, donations collected are given to charity.
“FPL doesn’t give us a break on the power bill,” resident Scott Galvin, a longtime city councilman, said.
The tradition began 36 years ago with two homes in the cul-de-sac competing with each other and has since grown into a holiday masterpiece with “a couple hundred thousand” lights.
For both the creators and the visitors, it remains a cherished tradition.
“The kids love this. Yes, this is a tradition since I was a little girl, so it’s amazing to pass it on,” one visitor said.
