Officers and Amazon workers traced the van to Northeast 23rd Street and Second Court in the Edgewater neighborhood. It was stolen in Miami Shores.

Miami Shores police said a man approached the driver in the area of Northeast 92nd Street and 10th Court, struck him in the face and then stole the truck, driving it south on Biscayne Boulevard.

After Miami police stopped the truck, they took the suspect, 46-year-old Hassan Rkein, into custody, authorities said. He’s facing a charge of carjacking with additional counts potentially pending, according to Miami Shores police.

Local 10 News spoke to several witnesses who saw the police takedown.

“Everybody started screaming and said that they were shooting outside because they saw the police with the guns outside and some people just jump(ed) on the floor, some other people were making videos, a woman just grabbed her kids and (ran) to the bathroom,” a worker at a nearby salon said.

Authorities said the driver sustained minor injuries.

“We’re grateful the delivery driver is physically unharmed and relieved the police quickly apprehended the suspect,” Amazon spokesperson Austin Stowe said.

According to Amazon, no customer packages were stolen.
