Authorities said that Akkura Stover, 21, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, met the victim online and arranged to meet in person at the Monte Carlo Miami Beach on Dec. 9 at 11 a.m.
After spending that weekend together, police said Stover allegedly pulled a gun on the man, stealing $200,000 in jewelry and $3,000 in cash from him before fleeing the hotel, located at 6551 Collins Avenue, in a rideshare vehicle, according to an arrest report.
The report stated that surveillance video from the hotel showed Stover leaving the scene with the stolen items.
The rideshare driver later identified Stover to police and said he dropped her off near 36th Street and Biscayne Boulevard, where she met 30-year-old Deshawn Montell Casey, detectives confirmed.
The victim received messages from Casey after the robbery, allegedly attempting to intimidate him into buying back his stolen jewelry, according to investigators.
Miami Beach police confirmed that both suspects were arrested Monday and identified by the victim, who provided their names to investigators.
Jail records show Stover and Casey are facing one count each of armed robbery with a deadly weapon. Casey faces an additional charge of threats and extortion, police said.
As of Monday, both suspects were being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Stover has been denied bond, while Casey’s bond is set at $15,000, with an additional hold for a Nebbia hearing.
A Nebbia hearing requires the defendant to disclose the source of the funds used to pay the bond.
