FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Sen. Rosalind Osgood praised the men and women of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department after a standoff ended without injury.
A SWAT team negotiator worked to convince a suspect to surrender on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale’s Dorsey Riverbend neighborhood.
“Some people decided to commit a burglary,” said Osgood, a former School Board of Broward County chair.
According to the police department, officers spotted a burglary suspect riding a stolen scooter and followed him at about 2 p.m.
“One of the suspects ran into our neighborhood and barricaded himself into a house,” Osgood said.
The standoff was along Northwest Third Court, between 17 and 18 Avenues. Osgood described the law enforcement officers as “wonderful” and efficient.
“They were able to come in the community after the suspect and subdue the suspect without any tragedy, any shooting, any harm to the community,” Osgood said.
Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.
