MIAMI – Dr. Meghan Martin used Instagram to list the five gifts for kids to avoid this Christmas.

The emergency medicine pediatrician at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg has seen plenty of accidents since she graduated from Florida State University, trained at Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, and completed a fellowship at a children’s hospital in Buffalo, New York.

“Make sure that the toy is made with quality,” Martin said.

Here is her list:

  • Toys with button batteries: “The majority of the injuries from button batteries are going to be from swallowing them.”
  • Toys with water beads: “They are polymers that if ingested ... can swell.”
  • Electric scooters: “We are seeing a lot of injuries with kids crashing on these.”
  • Hoverboards: “Forearm fractures and elbow fractures ... We have seen some head injuries ... ankle and knee injuries.”
  • Trampolines: “Mostly is going to be leg injuries.”
