Broward deputies under investigation for fatally shooting domestic violence suspect

BSO: Deputies forced to shoot gunman near Fort Lauderdale Tri-Rail Station

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators were investigating the death of a man wanted for domestic violence in Broward County.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, several deputies followed a gunman who had left a home after a domestic violence victim asked for help shortly before 1:50 p.m., Saturday.

According to Carey Codd, a spokesman for BSO, the deputies confronted the suspect and there was a shooting near the Fort Lauderdale Tri-Rail Station.

“Deputies were forced to fire their weapons,” Carey Codd.

Crime scene tape surrounded an abandoned burgundy sports utility vehicle with bullet holes in the driver’s side. A tarp covered a man’s body near Southwest First Street and 21 Terrace.

According to Codd, BSO placed the deputies who fired their weapons on administrative leave pending the outcome of the routine FDLE probe.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.
